Day 4

One of the highlights of today's narration was the well known story about enmity between Prajapati Daksha and Lord Shiva. Prajapati Daksha was the unchallenged ruler of that time, and as there is saying: "Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely!" he became proud beyond borders and wanted Lord Shiva to obey him. Although Daksha gave his daughter Sati to be Lord Shiva's wife, this just made the situation worst. Ultimately Lord Shiva prevailed and Daksha saw his mistake but not without consequences.

To keep ego in check is one of the most difficult things, therefore Guru bhakti and devotion to God plays very important part in spiritual progress and keeping our ego minimal.

Puja on the Srimat Bhagawat performed by Mahant Triloki Das Goswami.

Day 3

Today the story entered into the Book 3 (Skanda 3). Some of the highlights are the story about the Beginning of creation, which somehow resembles today's thery of Big Bang, or is it vice versa?

Most of the book was dedicated to the perfect wife and mother Devahuti.

 Hara Hara Mahadev!

Afterwards the prasad was given to the people who were listening on the special occasion of 69th birthday of Vishwa Guru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Swami Maheshwaranada ji.

First Day of Bhagawat Katha

And the first day passed... Pandit Rajendra Joshi, born in Bikaner, who has been telling this story of Krishna for the last 20 years is narrating it again but this time in Ashram.
It is quite an art to recite 18,000 verses in just 7 days! Rare are the people nowadays who want, or have time, to spend more than a few hours to listen to the most famous of the Puranas.

Srimad Bhagawat is full of stories of devotion towards God. In the Sanatan Dharma tradition God is only One, Universal, Absolute, but can take any form He likes. That is why in India there are so many Gods and Goddesses, as they are all but a small part, or amsa, as they are called in the books, of that One Universal God!
As all stories start .... Once upon a time there was a great king, known by the name of Parikshit. Due to some unfavorable circumstances he was bitten by the king of snakes and was destined to die withing one week and is searching for the way to get out of this predicament.

Srimad Bhagawat is made as a conversation between king Parikshit and saint Suka Muni who manages to liberate the king from this mortal world in mere 7 days.

***

Today's stories were from Book 1 (Skand 1) where the benefits of merely listening to these stories are explained, and then the life of some saints described.

You can download the full Puranas on http://vedpuran.net/ or any other site of your choosing.

Kalash Yatra

Before the start of any auspicious programme, Kalash Yatra is performed. Kalash Yatra is the procession of several ladies who are each carrying a water pot on their head or in their hands, which is topped with a dry coconut and decorated with leaves of the ashoka tree. On this occasion, at the front of this procession was a person who is carrying a special book on his head, the Srimad Bhagawat.

Our journey starts with the necessary puja (ceremony) for the book in Harihar Mandir, Shyam Nagar.

When everybody is ready, the procession begins.

Musicians are walking at the front of the procession and people are dancing from time to time.

Pandit Rajendra Joshi, kathavachak, the one who will read and explain the life of Krishna, is also carrying the holy Purana on his head.

The procession went through the whole of Shyam Nagar (suburb of Jaipur). In this way everybody gets to know that a program is taking place and can join.

The book reached Om Vishwa Guru Deep Ashram and MM Swami Gyaneshwar Puri Ji also carried the Holy book.
At the end of the reading, there was a little satsang and an announcement for the next days' programmes, which will start at the auspicious time of 1pm.

All are most welcome!
